Jio Platforms Ends Debut at ₹1,417.50, Up 26.7% on IPO Price; Market Cap Crosses ₹13 Lakh Crore

Jio Platforms closes at ₹1,417.50 with a ₹13 lakh crore market cap

Jio Platforms shares ended their first day of trading on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at ₹1,417.50 on the NSE, up 26.68% from the IPO issue price of ₹1,119. The stock had listed at ₹1,358, a 21.36% premium, and gained further through the session.

At the close, the company’s market capitalisation was above ₹13 lakh crore, which made it the second most valuable listed company in India after its parent, Reliance Industries, according to market reports. The company has also announced that its board will meet on Friday, October 30, 2026, to consider its September quarter results.

Jio Platforms Debut: Key Numbers

The table below summarises how the stock traded on its first day.

Detail Figure
IPO issue price (upper band) ₹1,119
Listing price on NSE and BSE ₹1,358
Listing premium 21.36%
Closing price on NSE ₹1,417.50
Gain over issue price at close 26.68%
Market capitalisation at close About ₹13.05 lakh crore

Closing figures differ slightly across reports. Some cite ₹1,419, which would be a gain of about 26.8% over the issue price, while the NSE figure of ₹1,417.50 is used here. The stock gained about 4.4% to 4.5% over its listing price during the session.

What the Debut Meant for IPO Investors

Investors who received one lot of 12 shares at ₹1,119 paid ₹13,428. At the NSE closing price of ₹1,417.50, the same lot was worth ₹17,010, a gain of ₹3,582 on paper. This is Findoc’s calculation from the reported prices. At the listing price of ₹1,358, the paper gain per lot had been ₹2,868.

These gains are not realised until the shares are sold, and the price can change with each session. Investors who hold the shares in a demat and trading account can sell at any time during market hours, subject to the usual exchange rules and taxes.

Demand Behind the Listing

The listing followed strong demand in the IPO, which closed on October 23 with 22.19 times overall subscription.

  • Qualified institutional buyers: 70.55 times.
  • Non-institutional investors: 14.00 times.
  • Retail investors: 2.72 times.
  • Employees: 2.93 times.
  • Shareholders: 7.60 times.

Retail investors placed bids worth more than ₹25,000 crore, excluding bids from eligible employees and small shareholders of Reliance Industries, according to exchange data reported on listing day. The company had also raised ₹8,109.85 crore from anchor investors before the issue opened.

Why the Market Value Matters

At ₹13.05 lakh crore, Jio Platforms is now larger by market value than any other listed company in India except Reliance Industries, according to reports. It also became the country’s most valuable listed telecom company.

The company’s IPO of ₹30,213 crore was the largest in India, ahead of Hyundai Motor India’s ₹27,858.75 crore offering in 2024. At the upper end of the price band, the post-issue valuation was about ₹10.3 lakh crore. The closing price therefore put the market value roughly 27% higher than that, in line with the share price gain.

Results on October 30 and Other Events to Watch

Jio Platforms informed the exchanges that its board will meet on Friday, October 30, 2026, to consider its financial results. This will be the company’s first results announcement as a listed entity.

Investors will watch several points:

  • Revenue, profit and subscriber numbers for the September quarter.
  • Average revenue per user, which is a key measure for telecom companies.
  • Management commentary on capital expenditure and the use of IPO proceeds.
  • The share price reaction on the next trading day.

The company has said it plans to use the proceeds from the fresh issue of up to 27 crore shares to prepay certain borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm and for general corporate purposes.

What Newly Listed Stocks Often Do

Newly listed stocks tend to see larger price swings in the first few sessions because the market is still discovering a fair price. A strong first day does not predict future returns, and prices can fall as easily as they rise.

Investors who did not receive an allotment in the IPO can still buy the stock on the exchanges at the market price. Those who do not yet have an account can open a demat account and complete KYC with a broker before placing orders. Active investors can then monitor the stock through a trading app, which shows live prices, volumes and exchange announcements.

Market Backdrop on Listing Day

The debut took place on a weak day for the broader market. The Sensex fell 352.64 points, or 0.48%, to close at 73,246.03, and the Nifty 50 fell 50.90 points, or 0.22%, to 22,698.85. Selling in IT and oil and gas stocks, along with elevated crude oil prices and caution before the US Federal Reserve’s decision, weighed on the indices. Jio Platforms was one of the few bright spots of the day.
