The Year-Ago Base for UltraTech Cement

This year’s growth came on a high base. In Q2 FY26, the company’s consolidated profit jumped 75.2% to ₹1,231.58 crore, and revenue was ₹19,607 crore with an EBITDA margin of 15.8%. Against that comparison, a 21.3% rise in profit and a margin of 16% show continued but slower improvement.

Cost Pressure Flagged Earlier by Management

On its Q1 call, management had guided that costs in Q2 would be higher by ₹130 to ₹140 per tonne because of the full impact of fuel price increases and seasonal maintenance. Q1 had also shown that fuel, raw material and packaging costs were rising.

  • Q1 FY27 operating EBITDA per tonne was ₹1,214, only ₹16 higher than a year earlier.
  • Fuel costs rose 5% to ₹915 per tonne in Q1, and raw material costs rose 9% to ₹682 per tonne.
  • Capacity utilisation in Q1 was 81%, and consolidated capacity was 205.5 million tonnes per annum.

The Q2 numbers show a small margin gain against last year but a lower profit than the previous quarter, which is consistent with that cost guidance.
